Why Choose Traditional Pallet Racking?
Advantages of Traditional Pallet Racking
Traditional pallet racking (also commonly known as selective racking or beam racking) is currently the most common and widely used storage system in domestic warehousing. Compared to narrow-aisle racking or drive-in racking, its core advantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. 100% Selectivity & Access Flexibility
The greatest advantage of traditional pallet racking is its 100% selectivity. Every pallet position is independent, allowing forklifts to directly access any pallet without being restricted by the storage sequence. This makes it highly suitable for storing a wide variety of items in small batches, effortlessly handling complex order-picking requirements.
2. Cost-Effectiveness & High Equipment Compatibility
With a simple structure (typically consisting of upright columns and beams, requiring no additional decking), it is easy to install and highly cost-effective. Moreover, it offers excellent compatibility with handling equipment. Unlike narrow-aisle racking, it does not require expensive three-way stacker forklifts; standard counterbalance or reach trucks can easily handle operations, significantly reducing initial equipment investment costs.
3. Structural Stability & High Load-bearing Capacity
The racking is usually manufactured from high-quality cold-rolled steel (such as Q235B steel). Its interlocking structure allows for flexible assembly and disassembly, and the beam levels can be freely adjusted at fixed increments (e.g., 50mm or 75mm) based on cargo height. It boasts exceptional load-bearing capacity per level (with some specifications reaching several tons), perfectly meeting the high-density storage needs for heavy machinery and automotive parts without deforming under full load.
4. Cargo Protection Against Crushing Damage
Unlike traditional floor-stacking methods where pallets are placed directly on the ground, pallet racking provides an independent support position for each pallet. This effectively prevents bottom-layer goods from being damaged by the heavy weight above, making it especially suitable for storing fragile or high-value items.
5. Height Adaptability & Space Utilization
Traditional pallet racking can be customized to fit the actual ceiling height of a warehouse. Typically ranging up to 12 meters in low- or high-bay warehouses, it fully utilizes vertical space, significantly increasing storage capacity compared to floor stacking. Additionally, it can be integrated with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) or barcode scanning technology to achieve precise cargo positioning and modernized management.
